Half-time report: ATK and Chennaiyin played out an entertaining first half at the Salt Lake Stadium with the scoreline reading 2-1 in favour of the home team.
Kolkata got things going as early as in the third minute when a they benefited from a poor clearance by the Chennai goalkeeper that left Kalu Uche through on goal and he slotted home his effort with great ease to make it 1-0.
The home team's second goal came nearly ten minutes later from a free kick when Lanzarote swung the ball at the far post and John Johnson headed it downwards and towards the opposite post.
Chennai weren't playing bad,as the scoreline would suggest. In fact, they were moving the ball around and patienly building the attack. Their efforts came to fruition in the 17th minute when Carlos Salom pulled one goal back for them. Francis got the ball wide on the right and escaped his marker to float in a cross inside the box where Carlos Salom headed it home to make it 2-1.
The rest of the half was an end-to-end affair although no other goal came.
In the 29th minute, ATK got another great chance when a great ball was played across the six yard box from the right side inside the box. Thatal received the ball at the far post but failed to put the finishing touch.
Chennai too had a fine chance in the 36th minute when, after an elaborate build-up, Orlandi passed the ball into the box with three Chennai players in good position to poke it home but neither Salom nor Thapa can got to the end of the delivery as the ball rolled right across the face of goal and out for a goal-kick.
The game has been entertaining. ATK would like to seal the deal early on in the second half with a goal or two while Chennai, who are still looking for their first win of the season, would certainly fancy their chance of mounting a comeback given the way they are playing.
