'Automated software cost-effective'

A study by Cognizant Technology Solutions, a leading IT services provider has revealed that automated software testing can deliver more than 80 per cent cost saving when compared to manual testing.

The study further showed that Cognizant's clients experienced a 90 per cent cut in execution time using test automation. The clients surveyed have credited test automation with accelerating iterative development and enabling the delivery of more business functionality in shorter release cycles.

The study further observed that the effort needed to set-up the operation can be mitigated through 'framework driven' automation, an innovative approach that leverages reusable automation components, along with tools from leading vendors to reduce set-up and maintenance costs associated with automation.

Organisations that have adopted this approach to test automation saw positive return on investment on their automation efforts as soon as the second release of an application, with up to 60 per cent savings achievable by the third release.
