There is a huge opportunity for the IT services industry in the Intelligent Information Network (IIN) area which addresses firms' desire to align IT resources with business priorities.

Addressing the Cisco ITS Summit 2006 here on Wednesday, Cisco Systems president (India and SAARC) Rangu Salgame pointed out that organisations are seeking ways to improve business processes, agility, security and productivity.

"The IIN helps in achieving these goals as it addresses the evolving role of the network within the business. The resulting network delivers active participation, process optimisation, service delivery, and application responsiveness. This process in turn delivers a better IT awareness," he added.

An intelligent network builds on an existing infrastructure foundation and turns the traditional IT 'cost centre' into a strategic tool that helps enable sophisticated IT functionality such as virtualisation, telepresence, application integration and optimisation which streamline IT processes.

"Now with the technology moving from sequential transactions to the non linear operations, which are based mainly on interactions, IIN plays a vital role. Some of the major companies like the Metro retail stores have successfully adopted the IIN," he pointed out.

He noted that it is imperative for companies to move to IIN as the benefits are enormous.

"In days to come, IIN will be the fundamental building block to enable interaction. This transformation provides an immense opportunity for the IT services industry to grab a size of the business," he said.

Rangu stated that the Indian IT services sector is set to grow to $100 billion over the next few years. "The IT services industry has to leverage on IIN as a majority of the companies will gradually shift to the intelligent network platform," he said.

This is the first ever ITS Summit being hosted by Cisco Systems in Bangalore on 'Scaling for Global Leadership'. Its aim is to evolve mechanisms to make the Indian ITS industry future ready. The summit will provide a platform for customers, partners, decision makers to exchange views.
