Agilent Technologies, through its foundation, has joined hands with SNS Foundation and Oakridge International School, Hyderabad, for improving science and math education in underprivileged schools.

A similar initiative will be launched by the premier measurement company in Bangalore and Gurgaon in partnership with The Indus International School and Ryan International School.

Speaking to Business Standard, Venkatesh Valluri, president and country general manager, Agilent Technologies India Pvt Ltd, said, "Oakridge, Indus and Ryan will work as mentor schools, which will train teachers from underprivileged schools in math and science. These teachers will then be in a better position to train the students belonging to the age-group of 9-12."

Agilent will be investing $45,000 in the first phase of this programme called Quest and hopes to impact 1,200 students during this period. The investment will be absorbed in setting up infrastructure in the form of laboratories in the underprivileged schools.

Meanwhile, the $5.1 billion Agilent Technologies is eyeing revenues of $300 million from India in the next three years. At present, India contributes close to a $100 million to the global revenues of the company.

Valluri said, "We will be investing $25 million for setting up a campus in Gurgaon that is likely to be ready by 2008." The campus will focus on R&D, financial and business support services of the company.

The Gurgaon-based company has sales offices in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai and is looking at setting up one in Chennai as well.
