The information technology (IT) industry in Andhra Pradesh has achieved a turnover of Rs 53,246 crore in 2012, crossing the Rs 50,000-crore mark for the first time, according to V Rajanna, president of ITsAP (IT and ITeS Industry Association of Andhra Pradesh), a registered apex body with over 300 members representing the software industry in the state.

“The growth rate of the industry in the state is at 16%, which is on par with the national average,” Rajanna said on Wednesday.

The turnover includes 76% (or Rs 40,646 crore) from exports and 24% (Rs 12,600) crore from the domestic market. The state IT industry currently provides employment to 1.33 million, including 3,18,624 direct and 10,12,769 indirect jobs.

Overall, the IT industry in the state is extremely well-positioned in terms of three fundamental requirements for growth and leadership - infrastructure, talent and a good business ecosystem, Rajanna said, adding, “The abundance of talent enables the industry to scale up rapidly.”

IT exports currently account for close to 38% of the state’s total exports. Also, 12% of India's IT exports are from Andhra Pradesh, with the state continuing to be the fourth-largest exporter in the country.

Stating that the state has more than met all the fundamental requirements of the IT industry, Rajanna said pursuing investment opportunities more aggressively than ever before, and enhancing collaboration among all the stakeholders, with each stakeholder playing her/his role more effectively, will enable the state to emerge as the industry leader.

Tech Day on January 5
ITsAP is planning to organise its annual Technology Day – an event that will review technology trends including cloud computing, social media, big data and analytics, and mobility – in Hyderabad on January 5, 2013.

The event, which will debate about ‘what’s hot and what’s not’, will cover an array of topics of interest for both the industry and the academia, including emerging platforms and frameworks, and market opportunities. The Technology Day will also organise a hands-on tutorial on mobile apps development on the Windows 8 and Android platforms.
