Ascendas India Pvt Ltd, Asia's leading total business space solution provider, plans to expand its presence in India by setting up information technology parks in Kolkata and Pune.

Addressing mediapersons on the topping-out ceremony of the phase-I, International Tech Park in Chennai, Goh Kok Huat, CEO, Ascendas India, said that the next destinations will be Kolkata and Pune where the company will be looking at promoting IT parks. However, he declined to give further information in this regard.

Ascendas' flagship projects in India include International Tech Park in Bangalore, Cyber Pearl and Vanenburg IT Park in Hyderabad and Infocity in Gurgaon. The company has so far built little less than four million sq ft of IT space in the country.

The phase -I of the International Tech Park, a joint venture promoted by Ascendas and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) is expected to be ready for occupation by the first week of June.

ITPC phase -I will have a built-up space of 5.25 lakh sq ft while commissioning of the second and third phases having similar built-up space is yet to be decided.

Cedric Foo, minister of state for defence and national development, Singapore said, "It is encouraging to see Ascendas' dedicated efforts to bring value-add to their projects in India. It testifies the company's strong confidence in Chennai as an IT hub, and Ascendas commitment to be the most sought-after IT Park brand in India."

Nainar Nagenthran, minister for industries of Tamil Nadu said, Chennai ranks as one of India's most promising destinations in which more IT companies are likely to expand.

The demand for world-class infrastructure is on the rise and the injection of Singapore's real estate expertise in creating this landmark IT Park will be catalytic to Chennai's development as the location of choice for expanding companies.
