C-COR, the $200 million US based firm offering software solutions for broadband operators and telcos, has announced plans to expand its Indian operations.

The company, in which Larry 'Oracle' Ellison has a notable approximately 20 per cent stake, offers products and services that automate the management of content, network, subscribers and workforce.

The expansion will double the development team to 120 professionals and also set up a sales arm to tap the local market. This will involve investment of a couple of million dollars.

The company recently took over Bangalore-based Alopa Networks for close to $20 million in a predominantly cash deal.

Said Michael Pohl, president, C-COR Solutions: "The new Bangalore unit is a key centre in continuing and expanding development and support of the C-COR solutions products. The team will also contribute to the various initiatives across our company for development and delivery of its products worldwide."

The Bangalore centre is currently developing the company's next generation application and service level management product to enable high-end usage based services over broadband and the Mobile Workforce Manager, a suite of field service management tools that automate the labour-intensive process of managing a field service workforce.

Added Vijaya Verma, MD, C-COR India: "The Indian operations will be responsible for the entire life-cycle of products and we are engaging with clients such as VSNL, Reliance and a host of other telcos in India. Once we have a full-fledged sales team here, we hope to clinch quite a few deal for our products."
