The western region task force of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and consultancy firm A T Kearney have chalked out a roadmap for outsourcing in India. This is expected to be the basis of the task force's next action plan.

AT Kearney, in its recent offshoring survey that involved 120 companies across industries and world regions, had stated that 64 per cent of companies have started to implement offshore business process initiatives as a means to manage costs, leverage productivity and drive profitability.

The task force wants to act as a nodal interface between the government (national and state level) and industry and aims at developing a roadmap for the next wave growth in the outsourcing and offshoring domain.

The task force will particularly focus on needs of emerging segments that will drive growth in the outsourcing industry. Automotive and pharmaceutical industries will be taken as representatives for identifying action items for the emerging outsourcing segments.

Chairman, CII WR task force on outsourcing and deputy chairman & managing director, Zensar Tech, Ganesh Natarajan, explained that specific action plan for the task force will include mapping expectations of the industry from government for supporting the growth plans and enhancing global competitiveness.

It will include policy and infrastructure interventions, regulatory interventions.

The AT Kearney report said that India has emerged as a strong player but confronts stiff challenges as it prepares for the future. Despite the visible success, India has been able to capture a relatively small proportion "" only 2-3 per cent of the global outsourcing market.

There exists high fragmentation and lack of sufficient scale of operations as beyond the larger three-five players, Indian companies do not have the scale to address the needs of global customers.
