Work on the projects likely to commence by February.
Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (Elcot) is planning to invite global tenders by December this year for developing IT parks in various tier II cities across the state.
The corporation is also planning to invest Rs 15 crore in each of these parks to create a 50,000 sft facility of its own.
Speaking to Business Standard, Santhosh Babu, managing director, Elcot, said they had already received government's approval to develop IT parks in Sholinganallur, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tirchy, Salem and Hosur.
Construction work on these projects is expected to commence by January or February 2009.
Tenders are also being invited for selecting a partner for creating social infrastructure in these parks on a public private partnership (PPP) basis.
Infrastructure development work at Ilandhaikulam and Vadapalanji IT parks in Madurai will start on December 5, 2008. Of the 245.17 acres integrated IT campus at Vadapalanji, Elcot would create social infrastructure on 50 acres through the PPP model.
At Sholinganallur, an extent of 377.08 acres is being developed as an IT SEZ. Major IT companies setting up shop here include Wipro, Satyam, HCL, Sify, Scope International, Cognizant, and Sutherland.
In Coimbatore, Elcot has a SEZ on 61.59 acres at Vilankurichi village. The total built- up area is 4 million sft. The SEZ will have Tidel park, an Elcot-Tidco JV in 1.8 million sft, apart from housing facilities of Wipro, HCL, and TCS.
Similarly, at Vadapalanji major companies that have proposed to set up their units include HCL, Sutherland and Satyam while at Ilandhaikulam, HCL, Honeywell, and Tessolve would set up their facilities in a 28.01-acre SEZ.
Work on Salem SEZ too would begin shortly following the resolution of a legal dispute. The corporation has proposed to develop an IT SEZ on 500 acres at Gangaikondan village in Tirunelveli district while at Hosur in Krishnagiri district this would be on 174.47 acres, Santhosh Babu said.
