Lenovo launched its second 4G budget smartphone, the A7000, for Rs 8,999 in New Delhi on Tuesday. The registration for the sale on April 15 began at 2 pm on Flipkart. The dual-SIM phone is the world's first to have the Dolby Atmos sound system.

The A7000 was launched at a Dolby theatre in the city to demonstrate how the technology helped enhance the sound quality. However, while using the A7000 on demonstration outside the theatre with headphones, I found the audio quite muted.

The second in the series after the A6000 was launched three months ago, the A7000 touchscreen response was average. Colours on the 5.5-inch high-definition display looked oversaturated. The build is good for its class but the back is a bit slippery. Though the A7000 battery gives more juice (2,900mAh) than the quadcore A6000 (2,300mAh), keep in mind the former also has eight cores. (More cores mean faster output as well as higher power use.)

Both the 8 megapixel (MP) rear camera that uses a Sony CMOS lens and the 5MP front one took pictures that were grainy and lacked detailing.

The A7000 comes with the Android Lollipop update, with some added gestures that Lenovo introduced in its smartphones with the Vibe series.
