This was anticipated. Pre-orders for the launch day stock of Apple’s latest offering, the iPhone 5, go over within sixty minutes after it went live.
The excitement amongst the phone can be measured from the fact that it look 22 hours for the iPhone 4S to sell out and 24 hours for iPhone 4. Apple’s website faced issues as it could not handle the massive traffic on its site from eager customers wanting to book the phone for the launch day.
Apple announced its latest phone on September 12 and it will go on sale from September 21.
Even though the phone did not receive positive reviews from all corners the fans have completely lapped up the phone.
As per Apple’s website, the iPhone 5 will now be available at a minimum wait of 2 weeks since its launch day of September 21.
The phone will come preloaded with the new iOS 6 operating software. It is 18 per cent slimmer than the iPhone 4S and one row longer than the earlier versions.
JP Morgan had earlier predicted that the phone could boost the US GDP by 0.5 per cent as Apple is expected to sell around 8 million iPhone 5s in the fourth quarter.
In the US the phone will be sold for $199, $299 and $399, for the 16, 32 and 64GB models respectively. The unlocked versions will retail for $649 (16GB), $749 (32 GB) and $849 (64GB).
