Ma Foi Academy, the career training division of Ma Foi Management Consultants, was launched earlier this month in an effort to expand the employable base of manpower for the information technology (IT) and the IT enabled services industry.

The academy is slated to identify industry-specific issues and offer focused training programmes to bridge the gap between requirement and availability.

In the offing are training programmes on FMCG sales, retail sales, and technical publishing. The Chennai centre is equipped to train nearly 500 candidates in a quarter. Ma Foi has plans to open training centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore by early 2005 and scale up across the country.

According to the latest NASSCOM report, there is a huge gap between the number of candidates available and their employability. Barely seven or eight out of 100 graduates qualify employers' criteria. The booming IT and ITES industry, which has the potential to employ a large number of graduates, is constrained by this factor.

To address the rising concern about the dearth for good candidates in the IT and ITES sectors, the 11 week full-time programme, is targeted at engineers, masters in computer applications and postgraduates with computer science as core subject, offers extensive training in technology. Candidates are put through extensive training in technology and soft skill training.

The ITES programme is targeted at fresh graduates. The program is designed to significantly enhance the candidates' chances of qualifying in the stringent selection process of large ITES companies.

Ma Foi Academy's programme on information technology is targeting organisations that cannot invest in training infrastructure. The academy will help such corporates to institute a rigorous selection process featuring technical and psychometric tests to ensure recruitment of competent candidates.

The programme focuses on training candidates in improving their vocabulary, enhancing their communication skills, minimising the mother-tongue influence and neutralising the accent.

The programme will take into consideration, various cultural backgrounds of other countries and help students understand geographical and social issues. This programme is offered as full time for 4 weeks.

Ma Foi is a 12-year-old public limited company. Having started in 1992 in Chennai with focus on recruitment services, Ma Foi has grown to be the largest HR services provider in India.

Ma Foi has 39 offices in the country and 5 overseas subsidiaries in London, Dubai, Singapore, Colombo and Malaysia, and over 880 clients including 124 Fortune 500 Companies.
