MatrixView Limited, the Singapore-based IT product company's solution for the capture of echocardiograms (images of the heart via reflected sound waves) and ultrasound images of the heart -EchoView, has gone live at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Bangalore.

According to a release, EchoView powered by MatrixView's patent-pending adaptive binary optimisation (ABO) technology, converts analog echocardiogram signals into digitised data which can be stored in the hospital's centralised server or into any generic storage mediums such as hard disk drives, DVD jukeboxes or tape drives.

The technology reduces the storage space and bandwidth required for these images, thus allowing for sharing of information between doctors. Both lead to cost savings and increased productivity.

"In our hospital, about 160 echocardiogram images are read per day and many of these readings need to be re-scanned. With the EchoView solution, the images are captured and saved , as a result, it eliminates the need to rescan. This increases productivity by at least 40 per cent and saves significant costs and time for both doctors and patients," said PK Dash, head, department of cardiology.

"Our next step will be to link up the Sri Sathya Sai Institute and Puttaparthy Hospital, so doctors can cross reference and share images via the internet," said Ravi Govindan, executive chairman and managing director, MatrixView.

The market potential for ultrasound imaging is estimated at $2.2 billion annually.
