MphasiS' Mangalore unit opens

A Rs 70 crore call centre in Mangalore, of the MphasiS BFL group, has started operations, a company release said on Friday. A staff of some 3,000 will man the centre, serving various 'Fortune 500' clients, the release said.

The operations started at the former factory premises of Pierce Leslie India Ltd at Jeppu.

Jerry Rao, chairman & CEO, MphasiS BFL said, "We expect the facility to generate significant employment in the city and play a crucial role in the economic development of Mangalore. We look forward to a consistent growth here."

This is the company's fourth facility, after Bangalore, Pune and Tijuana in Mexico. MphasiS' BPO business recorded revenues of Rs 74.48 crore for the quarter-ended December 31, 2004, as against Rs 48.32 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

This represents a consistent growth and demonstrates an increasing share of the BPO business, in the company's overall revenues, Rao said.

Keeping in mind the significant changes taking place in the BPO industry, Mangalore with its potential human capital, high literacy rate of the region, superior educational facilities, English language skills and advanced technology, was the natural choice to set up our next base."
