MS India centre turns ten

Microsoft India Development Centre (MIDC), the global research unit of Microsoft, is betting big on mobile applications and has started an incubation centre exclusively for R&D of technologies for mobile phones.

MIDC corporate vice-president and managing director Srini Koppolu on the occasion of the centre completing 10 years said the 2.4 billion global mobile subscriber base presents a huge business opportunity for customised applications and content.

The centre is also working on providing search solutions in local languages to reach out to a wider section of population. Currently about 300 professionals work in the mobile division.

The company has consolidated its 70 segments into 20 for a sharper focus. It expecting customers from developing markets like India and China.

To mark the 10th anniversary, chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated a new building at MIDC premises, which can accommodate 2,000 people. Reddy also released a book titled .in, which traces MS’ journey thus far.
