"The step to remove negative marking in section two has really helped us attempt a few more questions. The average number of questions attempted by the students has gone up from 40-50 out of the total 69 questions in the first phase," said Aditya Bhatt, an IIT aspirant who wants to pursue a career in computer science.
The other minor change in the paper pattern was the removal of the 'match the following' segment, which came as a disappointment for the students.
"In the first phase, we were expecting 'match the following' as one of the type of questions, since it makes our attempt easier," added Bhatt.
According to tutorial classes based in Ahmedabad, the difficulty level had, however, seen a bit of a rise as compared with last year.
"There were less number of direct and formula-based questions and more number of concept based questions. Even our faculty had a tough time solving some of these questions," said RT Dargar, owner of Cambridge classes for IIT-JEE.
