In an effort to bring more clarity to voice calls from a PC to another PC over the Internet, PeerMe, a start-up based out of Bangalore and US, has announced the launch of its VoIP software.

Said Shailendra Kumar, director, PeerMe, "We have developed a secure instant messaging environment supporting VoIP PC-to-PC and PC-to-handheld voice communications, instant messaging and peer-to-peer file transfer fully encrypted over public internet connections. PeerMe's technology can be used independently by connecting on a peer-to-peer basis or integrated into web communities, thus bringing a new generation of interactive connectivity to users."

All one needs to do is download a 1.5 MB PeerMe software, strap on a headphone from PC and start talking.

"It's that simple. Using industry standard protocols, PeerMe's peer-to-peer voice system provides sound quality almost equal to Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), also known as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), free and unlimited to any Internet connected PC user worldwide," he added.

PeerMe with this product plans to develop a whole lot of communities such as photo and file sharing, classifieds, blogs, dating and similar other services.

"From this, we plan to generate revenue in addition to our paid services in the US for PC to phone calls and also calling cards eventually," Kumar said.

He added that in the US, PC to phone calls are legal whereas in India it is illegal as of now. PeerMe is also planning to come out with a total solution for corporate and call centres.
