Pointsec, the $20 million mobile security solutions provider, plans to set up technical support in India for its Asia-Pacific customers. The company is in talks with a couple of third party service providers in India to start these operations. In addition to this, Pointsec is seeking a direct presence in India to tap the booming security solutions market.

Pointsec offers security solutions for mobile devices including laptops, PDAs, smartphones and removable media. Pointsec's solution provides protection for all stored data, automatically and transparent to the user.

It is centrally managed so that security policy changes can be effected without user intervention.

Said Sascha Beyer, MD (Middle East & India), Pointsec: "We have firmed up plans to offer tech support from India to our 600-odd customers in the Asia-Pacific region. We feel it won't make sense to have our own tech support centre here so we plan to have third party provider for this service. Our CEO was in India recently and we have had talks with firms and hopefully we should have this going."

Presently, Pointsec has tech support out of US and Europe and the proposed centre in India will draw on expertise from the European centre.

"This does not mean shifting of jobs from Europe to India but starting of a new operation. We will draw on experience from our established centres. People will move into India from that centre but the positions there will be filled up," Beyer stressed.

Commenting on the Indian market for Pointsec's solutions he said: "India is increasingly becoming an integral part of the global economy. With sectors like banking and financial services, telecom, ITPO increasingly adopting technology, there is a definite need for solutions which can ensure security of critical business data, thereby protecting the entire enterprise. Pointsec understands the crucial role India can play in developing a truly worldwide operation."

He added that in two years, Pointsec is targetting over 600 customers from India alone.
