Reliance Infocomm offers roaming in 2 more countries

Reliance Infocomm (RIC), an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises (ADAE) group company, has added two more countries on its international roaming (IR) network, taking the total number to seven.

Hong Kong and Taiwan are the latest additions to the company's roaming network, while it is also planning to add 11 countries across three continents on its IR network.

Confirming this, a company official said that the company has commercially launched IR in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and has tied with Hutch in Hong Kong and APBW in Taiwan for the services. Hutch and APBW offer CDMA services in their respective countries.

Following the commercial launch, post-paid subscribers of Reliance Infocomm will remain connected with their homes and the rest of the world when roaming in these countries, while subscribers of these nations will get a similar service while visiting India. Reliance Infocomm offers its CDMA services under the brand name Reliance IndiaMobile.

These countries are popular tourist and business destinations for Indians, while the country also receives a sizeable in-bound visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

With this addition, the total number of countries on Reliance Infocomm's network increases to seven, the others being China (under a tie-up with China Unicom), Israel (Pelephone Cellular Communications), USA (Sprint), Indonesia (Mobile-8) and New Zealand (Telecom Mobile). The IR in these countries were commercially rolled out on August 18.

The Anil Ambani-controlled company is also planning to enter into tie-ups with 12 operators in 11 countries across three continents, which accounts for 90 per cent of the global CDMA footprint. Reliance Infocomm is looking at countries like Korea, Australia, Thailand and Canada among others.
