Satyam Computer Services Limited has announced its intent to expand its operations to central India.

The company will be allotted a 100-acre plot in the special economic zone (SEZ) in Nagpur, and has signed an MoU with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) to this effect.

With this, Satyam has become the first global IT company to announce its plans to enter Nagpur, a media statement said.

Speaking on the expansion, B Ramalinga Raju, co-founder and managing director of the company, said, "Our association with Maharashtra goes back to 1997, when we had set up our campus in Pune, which started with 200 associates. It has today grown to 1,500. Taking forward that momentum, we are delighted to be the first IT company to be in Nagpur and are confident of the potential of the city, which has good infrastructure and a huge talent pool. We are certain that with the support of the Maharashtra government, we will be able to contribute in making Nagpur, which boasts of a number of engineering colleges, a great IT destination."

This development is in line with Satyam's strategic decision of expanding operations to tier II locations in order to utilise the best of local talents.

Further, the government has taken proactive steps to develop the city by way of developing an SEZ and plans to set up an international airport, which would attract further investments, the statement added.
