The company is planning to develop software for GIS solutions and provide services to corporates.
The company recently got approval from registrar of companies for the new business even as financial and other details are yet to be worked out.
For the new business, the company will have access to technical support of Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) for indigenous software technology in geomatics.
Apart from this, to create a local talent pool in information technology and GIS segment as well as to provide training and education of geomatics technology to professionals and students, the company will start an institute in Ahmedabad called Scanpoint Education Research Institute (Seri).
"At present, most Indian companies use GIS solutions made in the US or the UK. There is no company in the segment which have expertise in both software development and providing associated services. The GIS segment is expected to do very well in the times to come," he said.
The company has sought affiliation of Seri with the Gujarat University and its sessions are likely to begin from the current academic year. The institute will provide education and training to locals ranging from class 10 to graduates.
The courses provided by the institute will include a four- month certificate course, one-year post-graduate diploma and a two-year post graduate course in geoinformatics. For the working class (professionals and students), the institute will also provide part-time evening courses.
"Initially, for hiring qualified persons in geomatics technology, we had to set up our base at Bangalore. But we have decided to start an institute in Ahmedabad itself. We will train local people and then absorb them in our organisation," he added.
