Videsh Sanchar Nigam (VSNL), a Tata Group company, has drawn up plans to enhance the footprint of its Wi-Fi service in India to over 1,000 hotspots, and has been invited to join the executive committee board of Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), a leading global consortium of network Wi-Fi service providers. According to a release issued by the company to the BSE today, its partners for Wi-Fi hotspots include companies like Taj Group of Hotels, Le Meridien, Cafe Coffee Day, Barista, Manipal University and Wockhardt. The company has also been driving innovation through creating hotspots at non-traditional locations like mobile stores, IT stores and railway stations. "The company is the only Indian company to become a member of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), a leading global consortium of network Wi-Fi service providers. The company has drawn up plans to enable international roaming for business travellers by leveraging the alliance. WBA has invited the company to join the WBA ExCo board (executive committee board) which currently has worldwide telecommunication leaders including British Telecom, France Telecom, Korean Telecom, StarHub, Swisscom Mobile and T-Mobile-US," the release added.
