VTU signs MoU with Sun Micro

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and Sun Microsystems have agreed to partner in establishing 'VTU-Sun Knowledge Centre' at VTU main campus in Belgaum. They signed a memorandum of understanding on April 13 at Bangalore.
 
K Balaveera Reddy, vice chancellor of the university said that with this agreement, the partnership will be extended to VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Karnataka in establishing 'Sun knowledge lab' facilities. "The Centre is aimed at making available the industry-specific advanced information technologies, tools, courseware and training from Sun and Sun ISV partners to the staff and students community of VTU."
 
Dinesh Bahal, regional director, International Education & Research, Sun Microsystems, said, under Sun academic partnership matching grant scheme, Sun will offer hardware and as part of Edusoft academic software programme, it would offer unlimited user licenses of over 90 Sun IP software free of cost for teaching, training, learning, development and research purposes to VTU and its affiliated colleges partnered in this program.
 
M S Shivakumar, registrar, who signed the MoU on behalf of the university, said that VTU will initially identify 25 engineering colleges in the state to set up Sun Knowledge Labs. K D Nayak, director, DRDO, Hyderabad was on the dais and complimented VTU for its initiative to associate with SUN Microsystems India Ltd.
