Wipro makes inroads in MP

Bangalore-based Wipro Infotech, the information technology (IT) services, solutions and products division of the Rs 81.7 billion Wipro Ltd, has plans to offer marketing services to the Madhya Pradesh government and providing enterprise resource planning to small-scale industries to clock a business of not less than Rs 20 crore.
 
The firm is also now in an advance stages of talks with the state government for transportation, land records, stamp duty registration, capacity building, automation in police services, and creating a network for data centre.
 
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh today inaugurated the company's regional office here at Habibganj and discussed issues with the company's chief executive, strategic sales, Vishwanathan KS.
 
"We want to join hands with the government on e-governance initiatives since information technology initiatives have not been marketed by the state so far. Further, small and medium enterprises in Madhya Pradesh offer good potential to IT firms like Wipro. The ERP market is huge in MP," Vishwanathan told Business Standard, adding, "we have reached advance stages of talks with the state government on e-governance projects. We want to replicate the e-governance models which we did in other 13-14 states, which is why we have opened our regional office here today."
 
Though he did not have the idea about the size ERP market in the state nor did he disclose the quantum of investment his company is going to make, he said, "We started operations in Madhya Pradesh in 1986 and are growing at constant pace of 40 per cent each year. Our total business touched Rs 18 crore in Madhya Pradesh and this year we will be able to register growth above market average which is 20 per cent."
 
Interestingly his company also has no plans to invest in the Crystal IT Park, which is being developed in Indore, though two chief ministers from Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti and Babulal Gaur had boasted of 'Wipro-government' discussions on number of occasions.
 
Earlier Wipro chief Azim H Premji had advised state government to develop an international airport in the state. State chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said his government would extend all possible support to the firm.
 
Wipro Infotech already has a vibrant presence in markets of Madhya Pradesh with a client base of 300. Though he did not have the idea about the size of ERP market in the state, he said, "We started operations in Madhya Pradesh in 1986 and we are growing at constant pace of 40 per cetn each year. This year we will be able to register growth above market average which is 20 per cent."
