"We have chosen Mysore because it is a leading national academic centre and it is the best choice from among the Indian secondary cities," said Wipro Infotech president Suresh Vaswani. He recalled that on this five-acres Wipro had its erstwhile 'Wipro factory' and added, "Therefore, we have a sentimental attachment to this place."
"This is a second innings for us and our core part of engineers will service from this facility," he said
The GSMC will provide integrated service delivery across applications and infrastructure for India, West Asia and Asia Pacific customers and also act as a backdrop centre for global customers.
It already services about 24 leading organisations, largely domestic and they include customers like Maruti Udyog, Corporation Bank, Colgate Palmolive and Opti Mix, offering them 24o7 end-to-end service.
Presently employing 120 persons, Wipro hopes to scale it up to 400 in the first year operating in three shifts.
"The facility has a lot of scope for scaleability," Vaswani said and added, "Nearly 70 per cent are engineers who have been hired locally. We are hiring more and more local talent than moving it from other centres to Mysore. We are also in dialogue with local institutions on the knowledge the students need to be exposed to."
He dismissed suggestions that this was an end to the expansion of the Wipro facilities in Bangalore. "We are continuing to expand in Bangalore and other centres in the country."
"What you are seeing here is not minor or major. We are expanding across the country and outside Bangalore too. The Mysore centre will be a backup for global market for Bangalore centre. For us, this is a mega entry."
"The Mysore centre will be the nerve centre for providing seamless IT lifecycle services leveraging knowledge, tools and processes and measured through business impact metrics," said Wipro Infotech Professional Services chief executive Thandava Murthy.
"The integrated service delivery framework which leverages Wirpo's globally-acknowledged remote delivery capabilities has substantial advantages over traditional modules in terms of service manageability, predictability, reliability and responsiveness."
The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest in security and infrastructure backups and has ergonomically-designed work spaces. "This will be a major hub for us and a lot of innovation is going on here," Vaswani said.
In the global $66 billion market, India's market is a billion dollars. "This market is stated to be the fastest-growing. Last quarter ending we did $44 million, excluding the domestic business of $160 million," he added.
