“There is a basket of incentives provided by the Central and state governments to promote exports of goods, including freight subsidy”, Uttar Pradesh Joint Commissioner (Exports) Pawan Agarwal said addressing the ‘Smart Business’ conference organised by Business Standard in Lucknow on October 22, 2019. The event was organised jointly with the Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO), Kanpur Chapter, exploring the topic of ‘Opportunities in International Trade’ and was attended by a large number of exporters.
Agarwal informed that the UP government was in the process of taking steps to further simplify the procedures related to exports, such as improving the online system of granting clearances for the benefit of exporters.
Lucknow-based entrepreneur and exporter Kiron Chopra observed that the Information Technology had ushered in transparency in the system regulating exports, however, the exporters should be resilient in their endeavours and keep abreast of the latest developments.
He referred to the big-ticket infrastructure projects currently underway in UP viz, Defence Corridor, Jewar International Airport (Greater Noida) and Mega Expressways, to drive home the point that the state was firmly on course to accelerated economic development, which would also spur exports.
Prof. (Dr.) Alpana Srivastava of Amity Business School, Amity University, said that UP accounted for the maximum number of manufacturing clusters identified by the Central Government for development. She suggested that the state exporters should focus on traditional and indigenous crafts, and products to tap into the huge export markets potential.
Himanshu Pandey, Assistant Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Kanpur informed that the government was running several schemes for exporters and the export-oriented agencies were always ready to help the exporter community.
