Speaking to investors on ‘Strategies for Profit-making & Opportunities and Challenges in Investing’ at Business Standard Smart Business organised in association with Hindustan Chamber of Commerce (HCC) and Association of National Exchanges Members of India (ANMI) and protection patner Birla Sun Life Insurance, V Nagappan, market expert, said that there were negative and positive aspects in the current market and that investors should be patient and manage their investment prudently. “Investors are not panicking now as they are under-invested in equity. This is the sign of a matured market,” he said.
Glenn Roger, director and co-founder, Finmark Trainers India Pvt Ltd, said that there are several avenues for the retail investor to tread even at a dull market. The investor should invest intelligently, with proper homework and hedge the risks.
N Nandakumar, managing director of Devinaryan Housing and Property Developments Pvt Ltd, said that this would be a good time to invest in real estate. The prices have bottomed out and there could be an upward turn in the near future. “once the Real Estate Investment Trust regulations are in place, there will be more opportunity for investors in the sector,” he added.
Venugopal S, VP and zonal head of Birla Sun Life Insurance, said that the risk associated with small and medium entrepreneurs in the market are as big as the risks faced by large firms, but not many are addressing the needs of the SMEs in risk management. He added that the company has launched an SME protection counselling format, under which it provides counselling and advice to small scale companies.
