Centre’s fiscal deficit at 4.9% of GDP in H1
The Centre reined in its fiscal deficit at 4.9 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) during the first half of the current financial year. The Budget projected the deficit at 5.9 per cent of GDP for the entire 2023-24. The deficit stood much higher at 6.4 per cent of GDP in the first quarter but was checked effectively at 3.5 per cent in the second quarter.
