Light rain brings relief in Delhi as monsoon remains active across India

A dense cloud cover was visible across central and eastern India on Sunday, signalling an active monsoon spell over the region

Light rain lashed parts of the national capital on Sunday morning, bringing a pleasant change in the weather.
 
Meanwhile, the monsoon is likely to remain active across large parts of India, with widespread rainfall forecast over central and eastern regions as well as the western Himalayan region.
 
Heavy cloud cover blanketed parts of central and eastern India, signalling a fresh spell of heightened monsoon activity over the region. 

Rain in Delhi

Delhi received light rain in several parts of the city on Sunday morning, bringing relief from recent warm and humid conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated areas of the national capital recorded light rain, while Safdarjung reported mist and a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius at 8 am.
 
The Ridge area also witnessed a light thunderstorm accompanied by rain and mist, with the temperature at 26 degrees Celsius at 7 am.
 
The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius in the national capital.

Heavy rain likely in several states

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over central India, with heavy rain likely in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha and isolated very heavy rain possible over Chhattisgarh.
 
Eastern and northeastern India are also likely to receive widespread rain. Very heavy rainfall is possible over Odisha, while heavy showers may occur over West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand.
 
Several parts of the Northeast may witness heavy to very heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
 
In north India, widespread rain is expected over the western Himalayan region, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
 
The western coast, including Konkan and Goa, is likely to remain wet, with heavy showers possible in some areas. In southern India, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and parts of Andhra Pradesh may also receive widespread rain.

Rough sea conditions likely

Squally weather is likely over parts of the Bay of Bengal and along the West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts through August 24.
 
Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough in the affected areas, with wind speeds likely to reach 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph. The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into these areas during the period.
