Chandigarh, May 08 (ANI): Engineering students of a university in Chandigarh teamed up to design an electronic monkey repellent to keep monkey menace under check on its campus. Shaped like a langur (long-tailed big monkey), the repellent was developed after the varsity found it difficult to tackle problems created by monkeys. The students complained that monkeys regularly attacked hostellers, tore off their clothes and injured them. Anshu Sharma, president of university's student council, said that the university had earlier hired a langur handler to chase away the monkeys, but it proved to be futile. Weighing 2.85 kilogram, the device would make sounds of a langur to scare the monkeys away from a particular area. The user-friendly device operates within a radius of 30 metres and the range could be increased by installing bigger amplifiers. The students of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology designed the device as part of their final year project in electrical engineering.
