Juvenille accused in Pune Porsche case tried to swap blood samples: Police

The prosecution in the Pune Porsche case has told a court here that attempts were made to swap blood samples at a second hospital to save the juvenile accused, but it wasn't successful. Submitting additional documents under Section 173(8) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the prosecution said that the Pune police, which first got blood samples of the minor collected at the Sassoon Hospital, suspected that there was a possibility of tampering. The police then got the teenager's blood samples collected at the Aundh Government Hospital as a pre-emptive measure, but some of the other accused, including his parents, got a whiff of it, the police informed the court on Tuesday. The accused persons approached the Aundh hospital authorities to swap the samples, but the doctors there refused to cooperate and turned them away, the prosecution claimed. 4 killed as 'drunk' car driver knocks down 2 motorbikes in Chhattisgarh

Four persons riding two motorcycles were killed after a speeding car crashed into their vehicles and then rammed into a tree in Chhattisgarh's Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, police said on Monday. The car driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was also injured in the accident which took place on Sunday night near Majhgawa village under Pendra police station limits, they said. The deceased have been identified as Gangaram Gandharv (25), Ramavtar Gond (30), Bhupendra Gond (28) and Sanu Kevat (22), Additional Superintendent of Police Om Chandel said. Hit-and-run cases made up 38% of Mumbai's road crashes in 2023: Report

Hit-and-run incidents accounted for 38 per cent of all the fatal crashes on Mumbai roads in 2023, and majority of the victims, at 54 per cent, were pedestrians, as per a report published by the city traffic police. Occupants of the two and three-wheeler vehicles and pedestrians were majority of the victims in the road crash deaths here in 2023, an official on Sunday said quoting the data. Mumbai reported 374 deaths in 351 road crashes in 2023, marking a 39 per cent decrease since 2015, as per the report which comprised an in-depth analysis of the accidents data of that year. Among those deaths, two and three-wheeler occupants comprised 48 per cent and pedestrians 40 per cent, said the report published recently by the Mumbai Traffic Police in association of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety. Porsche crash case: 2 members of JJB removed after accused minor gets bail

The Maharashtra government has terminated the services of two members of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) here in connection with bail given to a juvenile accused in the Pune Porsche crash case, officials said on Thursday. A probe panel of the state Women and Child Development (WCD) Department had recommended action against the two members - L N Danwade and Kavita Thorat - for alleged "procedural lapses, misconduct and non-compliance with norms". WCD Department Commissioner Prashant Narnavare told PTI, "I had given the probe panel report to the state government and recommended that the appointment of the two members should be terminated." "The report, recommending the termination, was sent to the state government in July. Pune car crash: Teen's father, grandfather among 5 booked in suicide case

Police have booked the father and grandfather of the juvenile involved in the May 19 Porsche car crash in Pune, and three others, in a separate case related to abetment of suicide of a businessman's son in the city, an official said on Thursday. According to the police, a complaint in this regard was registered by a man, D S Kature, who runs a construction business in Pune's Vadgaon Sheri area, against one Vinay Kale, from whom his son Shashikant Kature, had taken a loan for construction work. After he could not pay the loan on time, Kale allegedly started adding compounding interest to the principal amount and harassing Shashikant Kature.
