Parts of country have imposed a temporary ban on sale and storage of poultry or processed chicken meat in view of the bird flu situation. As many as 238 birds including chickens were reported dead in Maharashtra on Wednesday and samples have been sent to the labs to check if avian influenza was the cause. Poultry prices have jumped by upto 30 per cent over the last one month following a sharp rebound in consumer demand.According to poultrybazar.com, broiler chicken prices in Raipur rose the highest to trade currently at Rs 81 a kg. In Gujarat, broiler chicken was sold at Rs 72 a kg on Wednesday compared to Rs 60 a kg a month ago. Similar price surge was seen in Mumbai and Nashik where broiler chicken remained quoted at Rs 67 a kg and 66 a kg on September 6 as against Rs 59 a kg and Rs 60 a kg a month earlier. Similarly, egg prices have also risen sharply over the last one month. In Ajmer, an egg was sold at Rs 3.15 a piece on August 6 which shot up to Rs 3.55 a piece a month later. Eggs became costlier by Re 0.30 a piece over the last one month to trade in Delhi at Rs 3.95 a piece on Wednesday.
