Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday set a deadline of one month for the officers of the civic agency to repair all the roads in the city. He warned that the Chief Engineers will be held accountable if the deadline was not met. Addressing reporters after a meeting with his deputy D K Shivakumar and the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials, Siddaramaiah said Rs 750 crore has been earmarked to repair all the roads. According to him, about 6,000 potholes have been filled while 8,000 more are yet to be fixed. The CM also cautioned officials not to compromise on the quality of the work. "I will hold two meetings in the next one month. I will take strict action if any shortcoming is found," Siddaramaiah told reporters. The National Highway 10 will be intermittently closed for repairs on April 18 and 19 between Sevoke in West Bengal and Rangpo in Sikkim, an official order said on Thursday. The NH-10 connects Siliguri in West Bengal to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. It is a critical route for connecting Sikkim to the rest of the country. The distance between Sevoke and Rangpo is around 53 km. The order issued by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) said the highway will be closed for all types of vehicles between Sevoke and Rangpo from 0300 hours to 0600 hours, 0700 to 0800, 0900-1000, 1100-1200, 1300-1400,1500-1600 and 1700 to 1800 hours on both the days. During this period, the movement of heavy vehicles will be prohibited from 3 am to 6 pm on both days. The Delhi Assembly on the last day of its winter session on Wednesday passed several supplementary demands for grants for the current financial year (2024-25) including the Delhi Metro Phase IV project, road repair, installation of CCTV cameras, among others. The supplementary demands as per the revised budget estimates of 2024-25 were presented in the Assembly by the Chief Minister Atishi and were passed by the members with voice votes. The Delhi government has made an additional allocation of more than Rs 2,500 crore under capital heads in the revised estimates of 2024-25 for various civic and welfare schemes and programmes ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls due in February next year. An additional amount of Rs 1,648.72 crore is allocated in the revised estimates for 2024-25 for ongoing works of Delhi Metro's Phase-IV. Also, a provision of Rs 951 crore was kept in the revised estimates for repayment of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan, the documents showed.
Several strategically important roads in North and East Sikkim are blocked due to heavy snowfall, the Border Road Organisation (BRO) said in a statement on Thursday. Strategically important roads along Lachung and Lachen axis and the national highway to Nathu La and Tamze have experienced exceptionally heavy snowfall causing disruption of socio-economic activities and posing a challenge to all road users. "Due to disturbance from western Himalayan region, the weather in Sikkim has taken a swift turn because of which Northern and Eastern part of Sikkim is experiencing heavy snowfall," it said.. PWD minister Atishi has approved projects to strengthen and upgrade roads in west Delhi, an official statement said on Sunday. These roads include Rohtak Road's (NH-10) service lanes from Metro pillar 109 to 273, Road No. 41, 77 and road from Paschim Puri Chowk to New Slum Quarters in Multan Nagar, it said. While approving the projects, Atishi said, The approved projects in west Delhi exemplify the Delhi Government's commitment to providing world-class road infrastructure for the citizens of Delhi. Strengthening of roads will benefit lakhs of people in these areas, decongest roads and their surroundings and inter-connectivity from main roads to colonies will improve. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed civic officials to revamp roads, pavements, parks, and sewerage and drainage systems in east Delhi areas, officials said on Sunday. The Lt Governor's office will monitor the progress of the work and no status report will be accepted without photo or video evidence, they said. The direction came after Saxena visited several areas of east Delhi, including Shashtri Park, Mansarovar Park, Seelampur, Shyam Lal College, Karkardooma, Surajmal Park, and Dilshad Garden. Mumbai cannot be pothole-free till the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation becomes the "single planning authority" to look after the maintenance of roads, the civic body in the metropolis told the Bombay High Court on Friday. In a presentation to a division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice MS Karnik, BMC commissioner Iqbal Chahal said 2,050 kilometres of the city are in the civic body's jurisdiction and some 500 kilometres with 15 other agencies. "The problem is, apart from the BMC, we have 15 other agencies who own 500 kilometres of road. I am not supposed to spend my fund on this. Most complaints are from these areas. If these 15 agencies do not pull up their socks then we will not have a pothole-free city," Chahal said.
