Army officer 'assaults' SpiceJet staff at Srinagar airport, FIR lodged

SpiceJet on Sunday said a senior Army officer, who was to board a flight to Delhi, assaulted four airline ground staffers at the Srinagar airport on July 26, causing a spinal fracture to one of them. An FIR has been registered with the local police and the airline has initiated the process to place the passenger on the no-fly list in accordance with civil aviation regulations, the airline said and added that the assault happened after the passenger was told to pay for the extra cabin baggage. Video clips of the incident shared on social media showed the passenger assaulting the staff and one of them being hit with a queue stand at the airport. The injured were taken to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. India set to reopen 32 airports shut during standoff with Pakistan

Civil aviation authorities have decided to reopen 32 airports that were shut for civil flight operations following last week's armed conflict between India and Pakistan, official sources said on Monday. A formal announcement regarding the resumption of operations at these airports is expected to be announced soon, the sources added. Civil flight operations from 32 airports across northern and western India, including Srinagar and Amritsar, were suspended from May 9 to May 15 due to the military standoff between India and Pakistan. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with other aviation authorities, issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India for all civilian flight operations.

KCCI wants PM to address unemployment, ease of doing biz during J-K visit

Snowfall in Kashmir valley disrupts flight operations at Srinagar airport

All flights to and from Srinagar airport in Kashmir were cancelled on Sunday due to snowfall in the valley, officials said here. "All the flights have been cancelled for the day due to bad weather at Srinagar," an official of the Airport Authority of India said. The official said the snowfall, which began late Saturday night, had stopped briefly early in the morning, allowing clearance of the runway. "However, the snowfall started again before any flights could operate," he added. The plains of Kashmir are witnessing moderate snowfall while heavy snowfall has been reported in the higher reaches of the valley. Snow clearance operations are being carried out since early hours to ensure that the roads are traffic worthy. Authorities have advised motorists to drive carefully in view of the slippery roads.

Srinagar airport gets free e-cart facility for passengers to reduce delays

A drop-and-go facility was introduced by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) at the Srinagar International Airport on Saturday in the wake of long-standing grievances about delays and hassles for entry. The state-of-art, environment-friendly e-carts facility was flagged off by AAI director, Srinagar Airport, Javed Anjum. Officials said personal frisking and vehicle and baggage checking is a time-consuming process due to which passengers entering the airport were facing delays, they said. At times, the passengers had to be advised to come to the airport four hours in advance to avoid missing their flights. However, despite such precautions, there were frequent complaints of passengers missing their flights, the officials said. Increasing number of brick kilns near Srinagar airport pose risk to flights

Mushrooming of brick kilns in the vicinity of the Srinagar airport, a defence installation, has given rise to aviation safety concerns and environmental degradation. The black fumes emanating from the furnaces of these brick kilns have prompted the authorities at the Air Force Station, Srinagar, to shoot a letter to the civilian administration to stop these activities. "The brick kilns operating around Air Force Station, Srinagar, are emitting large quantities of smoke and particulate matter.
