After two days of intensive questioning of Meta, the government on Friday shifted to technical discussions with the social media giant, during which the company detailed how it plans to address the Centre's concerns over deepfakes, child sexual abuse material and unlabelled synthetically-generated content on its platforms, sources said.
Sources told PTI that the government has asked Meta to take specific measures and report back on the outcomes.
Officials will regularly follow up with the company on its progress, sources asserted.
One of the key issues discussed was the reappearance, continued circulation and virality of AI-generated harmful content, even after it has been flagged. The government also questioned Meta on why AI-generated videos without labels continue to remain visible on its platforms despite the IT rules requiring synthetic content to be identified and labelled, sources said.

India successfully shielded consumers from supply disruptions triggered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz earlier this year through diversified sourcing, expanded refining capacity and higher domestic production, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Friday, while outlining the government's broader strategy to strengthen the country's energy security.
Addressing an industry event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Puri said India had moved beyond viewing energy security solely through the lens of access to hydrocarbons, citing diversified imports, strategic partnerships, infrastructure expansion and alternative fuels as key pillars of its approach.

Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday urged urban cooperative banks (UCBs) to look at the RBI from a "different viewpoint", underlining that the central bank has "proactively helped" the sector in recent times.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new office building of the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC) at the BSE here, Shah also said that when it comes to the safety of money, no other segment is as safe for lenders as small borrowers.
"I know of your experience till now. RBI looks at you from a particular viewpoint, and UCBs also look at RBI from a different viewpoint. But we have to come out of it," Shah told the audience comprising executives from over 1,400 UCBs and other stakeholders.
"My five years' experience as the Union Cooperatives Minister suggests that whenever we have put a step forward with confidence, RBI has proactively helped us," he added, listing out the relaxations delivered by RBI.
