Oldest tree worshipped by Hindu devotees

Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh), July 13 (ANI): Hindu devotees since years have been worshipping a legendary Baobab tree in a village of Uttar Pradesh. The 'Parijaat' tree is believed to have originated from the churning of ocean in the first age of Sata Yuga according to Hindu mythology and brought to earth by ancient warrior Arjuna from the garden of Hindu God Indra for his mother Kunti to offer to Lord Shiva and seek victory of Pandavas over Kauravas in the great ancient epic, Mahabharata.

Weather change over the years hasn't affected the tree but now some termite can be seen on some branches. A fence is built around the tree so that the devotees do not touch and pluck the flowers, leaves or branches.

Devotees tie a religious shawl around the fence and pray for a blessed life.
