Devyani International Ltd, which operates quick service restaurant chains such as KFC, Pizza Hut, and Costa Coffee through franchise agreements, has announced its plan to acquire homegrown chain 'Biryani by Kilo'.
The Jaipuria family-promoted Devyani International Ltd (DIL) will acquire a majority stake in Sky Gate Hospitality, which operates restaurants under the 'Biryani by Kilo' brand, along with other brands, according to a regulatory filing.
Though it has not disclosed the number of shares or the acquisition price, the company stated that its board is scheduled to meet and approve the proposal on April 24.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear on May 6 the pleas of the Kerala government against the governor over the delay in approving bills passed by the state assembly.
A bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi took note of the submissions of senior advocate K K Venugopal, appearing for the state government, that the verdict of another bench on the plea of Tamil Nadu covered the issues raised in the present petition.
Venugopal said the judgement delivered by a bench headed by Justice J B Pardiwala framed guidelines and set timelines for governors and the President on granting assent to bills.
What is the timeline for making a reference to the President by the governor and this issue is dealt with by that judgement, the senior lawyer said.
We will look into that judgement and see whether issues raised here are covered, the bench said and fixed the pleas for further hearing on May 6.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday returned the Finance Bill 2025 to the Lok Sabha, along with 35 government amendments, including one that abolishes a 6 per cent digital tax on online advertisements, thus completing the 2025-26 budgetary exercise that started on February 1.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had moved the two bills in the House.
The Lok Sabha had passed the Finance Bill on March 25 and passed the Appropriation Bill on March 21.
Replying to the debate later in the evening, she said the tendency of the finance ministry would be to exercise caution and not let go of revenues.
"But, here we wanted to use this opportunity to show our respect for Indian taxpayer. We have moved towards setting Rs 12 lakh as threshold up to which no one will have to pay any tax," Sitharaman said.
