South India-based Dodla Dairy on Friday announced the acquisition of eastern India's premium dairy brand Osam Dairy for Rs 271 crore, marking a significant expansion into the high-growth eastern market.
The 100 per cent acquisition of Osam Dairy represents one of the first large-scale deals in eastern India's dairy sector and underscores the region's potential to attract institutional capital, the companies said in a joint statement.
"We are thrilled to announce the proposed acquisition of Osam, marking a significant milestone in Dodla's journey. This strategic move underscores our commitment to becoming a pan-India dairy company," Dodla Dairy Managing Director  Dodla Sunil Reddy said.
He said eastern India is an exciting market for the dairy industry with faster growth compared to the national average, supported by high urbanisation potential and strong GDP growth.

ITC Hotels Ltd is aiming at expanding its portfolio to over 220 operating units with more than 20,000 keys by 2030, its latest annual report said.
According to the annual report for 2024-25, the company plans to accelerate its growth through management contracts and franchise arrangements.
Approximately, 70 per cent of the keys are being operated under management contracts, including franchising, it said.
Spun into a separate entity after the demerger from ITC Limited, the company owns brands like ITC Hotels, Mementos, WelcomHotel, Storii, Fortune and WelcomHeritage.
"Having achieved considerable scale and market standing, the business pivoted into an asset right strategy to drive growth and reduce the capital intensity of operations," the company said.
The focus was also on strong partnerships with asset owners, leveraging brand credentials and providing operational expertise, ITC Hotels said in the report.

India needs to be 'very careful and clever' while negotiating trade agreements with the US, especially with regard to the agriculture sector, which is heavily subsidised by developed countries, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said on Friday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday presented a Rs 40,187 crore-budget for the megapolis.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday returned the Finance Bill 2025 to the Lok Sabha, along with 35 government amendments, including one that abolishes a 6 per cent digital tax on online advertisements, thus completing the 2025-26 budgetary exercise that started on February 1.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had moved the two bills in the House.
The Lok Sabha had passed the Finance Bill on March 25 and passed the Appropriation Bill on March 21.
Replying to the debate later in the evening, she said the tendency of the finance ministry would be to exercise caution and not let go of revenues.
"But, here we wanted to use this opportunity to show our respect for Indian taxpayer. We have moved towards setting Rs 12 lakh as threshold up to which no one will have to pay any tax," Sitharaman said.
