The Los Angeles Coroner's office today ruled out foul play or "external trauma" in pop icon Michael Jackson's death after conducting an autopsy.

The autopsy on the body of Jackson has been completed, but the cause of death has not been determined, Coroner's spokesperson Craig Harvey told reporters.

The cause of death has been deferred, which means the medical examiner has ordered additional testing such as toxicology and other studies, Harvey was quoted as saying by CNN.

"We anticipate being able to close the case and issuing a final cause of death" after those tests are completed in "four to six weeks", he said.

"There was no indication of any external trauma or indication of foul play on the body of Jackson," Harvey added.

The spokesperson also provided a few other details about the autopsy and said Jackson was taking prescription medication. "We know he was taking some prescription medications," Harvey was quoted as saying by Los Angeles Times. However, he did not elaborate.

He added that Jackson's body is now available for release for funeral.

The pop star died at a hospital here yesterday after a cardiac arrest.

People close to the singer have claimed that his dependency on prescription drugs led to his sudden death.
