Former home of Charles Dickens up for sale for pound 2 mn

Over two-century old former home of English novelist Charles Dickens is up for sale for £2 million.

Bleak House, the cliff-top building in Broadstairs, Kent, was home to the author when he penned David Copperfield - one of his most famous novels.

A spokesman for the estate agent, Terence Painter Properties, told The Daily Telegraph: “Bleak House commands one of the most prominent positions - high up on the cliffs on the coast of Kent”.

“The Grade II listed house was built in 1801 and has to be one of the country's most renowned homes.”

The building was damaged by fire in 2006 but has undergone a £40,000 restoration. The house is owned by Richard Hilton, whose family jewellery business is in difficulty.
