Indian food delicacies with flavour and taste of spices are becoming a big hit in China, Spices Board sources said here.

More and more Chinese people travelling to different countries and the vast influx of overseas floating population into China has contributed to the trend, the sources said.

During the SIAL China, an international exhibition for food and beverage trade held at Shanghai from May 19-21 this year, the board had received enquiries on whether India can supply curry powders of different Chinese specifications.

Enquiries have also been received from countries like UAE and South Africa on Indian pepper and chilli. An Australian company was keen to know if India could supply spice powders in 30 gram packs in its brand name, the sources informed.

Besides the spice industry from China, spices importers from UAE, Thailand, Vietnam, France, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Iran visited the Spices Board stall and enquired about spices like pepper, turmeric, ginger, chilli, cardamom and curry powder.

China has been buying mint and mint products from India besides spice oils and oleoresins, chillies, black pepper, turmeric and curry powder.
