Okay, so you want to own the best TV there is out there. Who doesn't? And no, no one is thinking of the usual 40-inch flat screens. There's a glint in the eye only in the presence of an 84 incher - that too with the very latest 4K resolution. Wow, four times the resolution of a Full HD TV! Now this leaves everything behind. A television of this size (that's seven feet in diagonal measurement of the screen) with a resolution that makes Full HD appear like a child's crayon picture, now that is indeed enviable. A 4K resolution, in practical terms, means absolute clarity all across the huge screen in darkness or in full glare of a light source.

But LG, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic have already put out their 4K Ultra HD televisions, so what's new? Ah, the Joneses must now reach out for Vu Technologies' 84-inch 4K product. Why? Because it is better than the others in one aspect: it can be customised to your own preferences.

Let's begin with what it looks like, or rather what you want it to look like. You see, you have the option of choosing your own frame for your bespoke television. And no, it's not just about colour. You can opt for mirror frames, logo frames, crystal frames or a custom-designed Tarun Tahiliani bezel.

Then, this television set is much more than a TV, or even a smart TV. Smart TVs have Internet access capabilities and often respond to gestures and voice commands. The Vu machine is just that bit smarter since it actually has a PC built into it and comes with a wireless keyboard. Your customisation option comes in the form of the operating system for your TV-computer. Do you want Windows 7 or Mac? Or perhaps Windows 8? And don't worry, Linux and Android are also available. You can also choose your web browser - Firefox, Explorer, Chrome, it's your headache.

The super-luxury 3D TV then allows you to install your preferred TV service provider. It comes with a built-in set-top box that will ensure a regular flow of your favourite channels while doing away with the unaesthetic tangle of wires. Throw your power strip away, for your channels, Internet, gaming and computer will now need a sole power source. And if movies and serials bore you quickly, it has pre-installed productivity apps like Open Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader to keep you in touch with your inner professional. Or you can play PC games since it has a high-performance graphics card nestling inside.

But there is more here, naturally. For only connoisseurs would pick a product for what it uniquely offers, the price be damned. Vu's TV offers you the option of a touch display. Yes, the whole acreage of the 75-mm thin display can be a touch screen, if you so want. Perhaps the first of its kind in the industry, touch will do away with remote buttons and all you need is a ready finger - from choosing channels and surfing the Net to accessing files from its 500-GB memory and physically touching the play button on a YouTube video. Vu has stepped away from the usual resistive and capacitive touch technologies and gone in instead for optical or infra-red touch.

This customisable marvel will be out this month. It is also cheap, comparatively, because at Rs 9 lakh (it's Rs 18 lakh for the touch-enabled screen) it still is better priced than the normal 4K TVs from the other companies. There is a 64-inch model too, but it lacks the entire array of optimisation options of its bigger brother. Of course, with this one, you can go in for a Swarovski crystal-studded frame. Equipped with touch, this will cost you Rs 4.5 lakh. Wait with your fingers crossed for the end of August when these will be launched in select Vu dealerships across the country.
