2 sick Kumaon units shut down in Uttarakhand

Faced with big losses, the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), a state government enterprise, has closed down two of its sick units""Trans Cables Ltd and UP Digital Ltd.
 
It has transpired that the decision to close down these two was taken last year and they were shut down early this year, Tourism Minister Prakash Pant said. Most of the employees of the two have opted for the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS), top officials of the KMVN said.
 
Another VRS amounting to Rs 2.60 crore will be given to the rest of 23 employees of Trans Cables Ltd, who did not apply for the golden handshake.
 
Similarly, an amount of Rs 3.26 crore will be given to the rest of the 27 employees of UP Digital. Trans Cables, which used to manufacture aluminium conductors, was not getting contracts from the state government.
