Airtel launches mobile phone-based power bill payment service in Chhattisgarh

After Bihar, Chhattisgarh will be the first state where the company had launched the service to pay electricity bill through mobile phones

Power consumers in Chhattisgarh using the Airtel mobile phone would now be able to pay the electricity bill by pressing the keys of their mobile sets.

The Bharti Airtel, through its wholly owned subsidiary Airtel M Commerce Services Limited (AMSL), has launched the service in Chhattisgarh that would enable the electricity consumers in the state to make the payment through the mobile phones. All that the beneficiary required was to become Airtel Money customers.

After Bihar, Chhattisgarh would be the first state where the company had launched the service to pay electricity bill through mobile phones.

The Airtel had inked an agreement with the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) to start the service. The Airtel company would be concentrating on rural pockets to make the service success.

CSPDCL bill payments through Airtel Money is a simple, convenient, quicker and secure alternative to the conventional methods of payments via standing in collection counter queues or paying online, the company said in a statement. The service works across all mobile devices, does not involve any data or SMS charges and uses a simple USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) technology that prompts users with interactive and guided menu options.

Launched pan India in 2012 - Airtel money is a fast, simple and secure service that allows its users to load cash on their mobile devices and spend it to pay utility bills and recharges, shop at merchant outlets, transact online etc. Apart from serving as an easy alternative to cash and card payment options, Airtel Money also offers customers the convenience of instant money transfer from an Airtel Money wallet to another Airtel Money wallet and bank accounts across the country.
