Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group Chairman Anil Ambani is reported to be now harbouring interest in Premier League team, Everton, after withdrawing its takeover of Newcastle United, media report say.
"Everton has become the latest Premier League team to be courted by billionaire Indian businessman Anil Ambani and intermediates representing Ambani have been in contact with Goodison owner Bill Kenwright, intent on arranging a meeting between the two parties," the Liverpool Daily Post has reported.
Ambani's son, Jai Anmol, is thought to have attended Evertons pre-season friendly against PSV Eindhoven at Goodison for informal talks with Kenwright and club director Robert Earl, the Liverpool Daily Post added.
Anil Ambani, the sixth richest man in the world, was believed to be in negotiations with Newcastle club owner Mike Ashley for a reported 260 million pounds takeover.
"Ambani, said to be the sixth richest man in the world with a fortune of 24 billion pound, has targeted Everton after failing in an attempt to take control at Newcastle United," Liverpool Daily Post said.
Meanwhile, The Independent has reported that Ambani withdrew the interest because of "turbulent conditions which currently exist there (in Newcastle)".
Goodison owner Bill Kenwright is reported to have said in recent extraordinary general meeting that he is looking for a billionaire to take over the club.
The daily quoted Kenwright as saying that "I am a pauper when it comes to other chairmen. I cannot go on like this, we need a new owner and we will continue to try to find one".
