DyAnsys Inc, a US-based company, has announced introduction of ANSiscope, a non-invasive medical equipment for detecting and screening Diabetes Autonomic Neuropathy (DAN).

According to DyAnsys Inc chief executive officer, Srini Nageshwar, ANSiscope is a battery-operated, portable and affordable medical equipment, specifically designed for the general physicians. It helps the general physicians start DAN treatment early, especially in remote areas where accessibility to specialist medicare is poor.

ANSiscope is the only medical equipment capable of measuring autonomic dysfunction (DAN in the case of diabetes) within five minutes. All that is required is the patient to lie down during the measurement. The equipment could be operated by non-medical staff and is hand-held and battery-operated, Nageshwar told media persons here on Tuesday.

He said DyAnsys Inc, which markets ANSiscope through its Indian subsidiary DyAnsys India Private Limited, was the first company to come out with a measuring instrument for DAN, which was known as the silent killer. The company, founded by a team of professionals drawn from medical, mathematical and IT fields, has set up its manufacturing facility in Chennai last year.

Over the years, Nageshwar said, the incidence of diabetes in Hyderabad had increased. About 16 per cent of the people in the city above the age of 25 were suffering from diabetes as compared to 5 per cent in other cities and the world average of 3 per cent. Besides, "43 per cent of the Hyderabadis were unaware of a condition called diabetes," he added.
