Apollo forms JV with NSDC to launch training academy

Apollo Hospitals on Tuesday signed an MoU with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to launch a training academy. The MoU was signed by Apollo Medskills, the training arm of the group.

It may be noted, NSDC had picked up a 26 per cent stake in Apollo Medskills for Rs 3.5 crore besides giving a soft loan of Rs 24 crore.

The first academy will be at Anna Nagar, Chennai. The project includes a training programme that will combine classroom and practical/ fieldwork-based methodology to introduce candidates to the functions of hospital and provide them the necessary skill-sets.

The project kick started in Chennai with 1,150 candidates, identified by Apollo Medskills. The programme will be rolled out in a phased manner with the addition of 47 centres to train 400,000 healthcare professionals.

The target population includes middle income and lower middle income group.

In the first year, in addition to Chennai, the company will have centres in Hyderabad, Shillong and Patna. The centre will have 27 courses such as medical lab technology, dialysis and non-invasive cardiac courses, radiology and imaging and operation theatre technology for doctors and nurses and parameds and support staff.
