Apollo Hospitals forays into homecare services

Will provide services like elderly care, chronic illness care, post-surgery care among others

Healthcare services major, Apollo Hospitals today announced its entry into the homecare domain with the launch of services in Hyderabad, New Delhi and Chennai.

Christened Apollo Homecare, the new initiative will provide end-to-end, professional home healthcare through home visits, home partnerships and home nursing programmes.

Currently operating with over 500 homecare professionals, Apollo Homecare will expand its operations to all tier-I cities by the end of this year and spread to 13 tier-II cities by the end of next year, it said. 

"Home-based quality healthcare will play a very significant role in the healthcare industry in India in this decade. Continuity of care is fundamental for better outcomes in healthcare. Apollo will sustain this continuum beyond the hospitals into the community through Apollo Homecare," Group chairman Prathap C Reddy told mediapersons here.

Stating that homecare is a win-win situation for all stakeholders and would reduce the average length of stay of patients in hospitals and reduce the outgo for health insurance companies, Reddy said he was hopeful of health insurance companies favourably considering reimbursement for home-based healthcare services.

Leveraging the Apollo group network and services, Apollo Homecare will provide broad category of services like elderly care, chronic illness care, post-surgery care, post-hospital discharge care and home specialty care to its home-based patients, said Mahesh Joshi, chief executive officer of Apollo Homecare.
