Asus slashes notebook price

The notebook and mother board manufacturer plans to open 100 exclusive product stores across the country

Taiwan-based notebook and mother board manufacturer, Asus India, plans to aggressively sell its high-end notebooks in the Indian market.

Encouraged by the sales of its ultrabook (Zenbook Prime), the company has reduced its offer price by Rs 10,000 to Rs 36,999.

It is now looking to gain at least 10 per cent (approximately 300,000 units) in the overall hand-held mobile PC sales in India during the current year.

Moreover, it plans to open 100 new exclusive product stores across the country, said Unaez Qureshi, country manager, system business.

Currently, Asus is placed third globally (next only to Apple and Samsung) with a share of 5.5 per cent and is growing at 350 per cent, according to a company release.

Meanwhile, the company on Thursday launched its new product line-up, including Axus-Taichi (dual screen, Windows 8), FonePad, Padfone, S-series Ultrabooks, MeMo Pad, VivoTab RT, F-series thin and light notebooks, priced in the range of Rs 9,999- Rs 1.5 lakh.

Discussing its India plans, Apratim Sharma, product manager, said the company wanted to be the leader by introducing latest technologies, win market share and also compete in the general laptop market. For the year 2012, it recorded global sales of $11.9 billion.
