"The company has won Rs 2,500 crore order to provide boilers to the 1,600 MW Krishnapatnam power project of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGENCO)," sources said today.

BHEL outbid the joint venture of Larsen & Toubro and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (L&T-MHI) to clinch the order. The bids for the supply of boilers for Krishnapatnam were opened on Friday.

This order comes close on the heels of BHEL losing the contract for supply of turbines and generators for the same project to L&T-MHI.

Meanwhile, the company has recently bagged Rs 2,080 crore turnkey contract to develop a 400 MW thermal power project in Syria, the biggest order won by the company till date.

The order has been placed by Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation and Transmission (PEEGT), Ministry of Electricity, Syria.

The company will design, manufacture, supply, erect and commission the main plant equipment with associated auxiliaries, balance of plant and electrical and civil works.

It would develop a 400 MW thermal power project at Tishreen Thermal Power Plant Extension in Syria, which would be executed in a period of 33 months.

BHEL is targeting a six-fold increase in its physical exports by 2012.
